Adventure Brynty with John Muir Award

- Immersion in wild places and comprehension of the environment
- Work to actively protect areas of outstanding natural beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site

This week-long residential aims to deliver just that, fun, adventurous times that subtly develop the attributes needed to thrive in the 21st century. Alongside these, we are also running a 16-hour first aid course, so you are confident and equipped to handle a first aid emergency. Students who complete the course will receive a certificate that is valid for three years.
No outdoor experience is required, all technical equipment and instruction will be provided, and activities could include canoeing, rock climbing, mountaineering, scrambling, white water kayaking and bushcraft. Places likely to visit are unique locations around the Clwydians (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Snowdonia National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, River Dee and the ice cream shop in Llangollen!

Bryntysilio Hall stands above a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built at the beginning of the industrial revolution. Horseshoe Falls that lead to the Aqueduct, and Bryntysilio are preserved buildings that capture historic sites of interest for future generations. Equally, as an adventure education centre, spending time in wild places is so very important and special to us. As such it’s important to us that we understand and care for the natural world and wild places.
The John Muir Award is built around exploration, challenge, protection and sharing issues around wild spaces. This week would suit anyone interested in the natural world, ecology, biology, issues around conservation. The video below gives a good overview of the award.

We want every young person to arrive at Bryntysilio feeling confident, excited, and reassured they’re in safe, experienced hands. During your Gold DofE Residential, you’ll be part of the only programme running that week—so our full focus is on ensuring you have an amazing experience. You’ll stay in either the cosy Woodland Village or the main Victorian Hall—both fully equipped, comfortable, and designed with young adventurers in mind. There’s nothing to worry about except enjoying the experience and working toward your award.
The Woodland Village features insulated Mongolian yurts, bell tents, and ensuite shepherds’ huts, set in peaceful woodland overlooking the stunning Clwydian Range. With its own shower block and village hall for meals and group time, it’s a scenic base to relax after a day of adventure. Evenings are relaxed and sociable, with time to unwind, connect with nature, and enjoy the famous Brynty BBQ on the last night!

Notes On Bryntysilio
We are a small and vibrant adventure education centre in Llangollen, Northeast Wales. The Victorian-era building overlooks a UNESCO World Heritage site, on the banks of the River Dee with views up the valley towards the steam railway line. Llangollen is famous for the International Musical Eisteddfod and adventure sports, drawing people from across the world making it a warm and welcoming place!
Bryntysilio has been running educative programmes for young people for over 50 years focusing on the development of independence through real adventure. Specifically, we develop individuals to gain a great sense of who they are, increased self-esteem and confidence and, how to take greater ownership of their learning. This ethos is embedded in every course we run. Equally, we have a caring, nurturing culture in the centre that aims to make every single visitor feel at home!
