Bronze DofE Expeditions

We’re excited to help young people begin their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) adventure here at Bryntysilio. We want every young person to feel welcome, capable, and excited about giving something new a try.

As a School package, we provide training, practice, and qualifying expeditions, along with the essential kit you need to feel prepared and supported. Our Bronze expeditions are available as walking expeditions. We work closely with schools, including offering weekly in‑school sessions so students can build skills and confidence before heading outdoors – taking the pressure off your teaching staff. 

Whether you’re brand new to DofE or already involved, we’re here to make your journey enjoyable, memorable, and something to be proud of!

To make the experience stress‑free, we provide the essential expedition kit, including tents, stoves, fuel, maps, and compasses. This means students don’t need to worry about buying expensive equipment. We also give advice on personal kit like clothing, waterproofs, boots and bags to help you choose items that are comfortable and affordable. 

We know schools are busy, so we offer weekly in‑school sessions to help students prepare. These sessions can include map skills, route planning, team activities, and guidance for other sections. We find that regular support keeps students motivated and excited for their expedition. 

Practice expedition:

The practice expedition is a relaxed way to put new skills into action. Students walk as a team and try camping overnight with support close by. It’s a great chance to learn together! Most groups finish their practice expedition feeling proud and surprised by how much they’ve grown already

Qualifying expedition: 

The qualifying expedition is the moment when everything comes together. The team plan a journey and complete it on their own, with staff supervising from a distance. It’s a brilliant feeling to reach the end as a group, knowing they completed it themselves! 

Whether students are well versed in being outdoors or a bit nervous, we make sure everyone feels included and supported – and challenged at the right times. At Bryntysilio, it’s not about being the fastest or the strongest. It’s about trying your best, working as a team, and enjoying the journey. We find routes suitable for all abilities, whilst being suitable for the level of award.
