Silver DofE at Brynty
We’re excited to support schools and DofE leaders in guiding young people through their Silver Award at Brynty. As students move up from Bronze, we know they face a bigger adventure! Let us make the experience enjoyable, achievable, and well‑supported from start to finish!
As a School package, we provide training, practice, and qualifying expeditions, along with the essential kit you need to feel prepared and supported. Our Silver expeditions are available as walking or canoeing expeditions. We work closely with schools, including offering weekly in‑school sessions so students can build skills and confidence before heading outdoors – taking the pressure off your teaching staff.
Whether you’re brand new to DofE or already involved, we’re here to make your journey enjoyable, memorable, and something to be proud of!
Training that feels supportive and fun
Training sessions include:
- Map reading
- Route planning and timings
- Packing and transporting
- Outdoor safety, first aid and decision skills
- Canoeing training (if applicable)
Our aim is to help students feel capable, well‑prepared, and ready for the increased responsibility at Silver.
The Expeditions: Practice and Qualifying
Practice expedition:
The Silver practice expedition gives students a chance to put their learning into action over a longer journey. Students work together as a team, refine their navigation, and experience two nights of camping with our staff providing close support.
We aspire to let groups build confidence gradually while developing the independence they need for their qualifying expedition.
Qualifying expedition:
During the Silver qualifying expedition, teams take on a more demanding route, travelling for three days and camping for two nights. Students work more independently, making their own decisions. Our team supervise and assess from an appropriate distance.
Reaching the end of this expedition is a significant achievement -with endless memories made
Keep things simple. What we provide:
To make planning easier for schools, we supply all essential expedition equipment, including:
- Tents
- Stoves and fuel
- Compasses
- Maps
We also offer guidance on personal kit such as boots, waterproofs, bags, and sleeping equipment, helping ensure students are comfortable, safe, and well‑prepared.
Support where you need it:
To support busy school timetables, we can deliver weekly in‑school sessions to help students prepare for both their expedition and the other sections of their Award.
These sessions can include:
- Navigation and route planning
- Team-building activities
- Volunteering and Skills Guidence
- Packing
- First Aid and Scenarios
Regular contact keeps students engaged, organised, and ready for the demands of Silver.
