Gold & Silver Open Expeditions
We are delighted to offer practice and qualifying expeditions for both Gold and Silver Award participants.
We are a fully insured and risk assessed as a registered Approved Activity Provider for the DofE Award Scheme.
Our Expeditions:
- Are open to anyone registered on the DofE Award
- Come with qualified DBS checked instructors with First Aid and worldwide expedition experience with you every step of the way
- Start in Llangollen, using venues and routes across Snowdonia and North Wales
- Choose from a range of practice and qualifying weeks
- All kit, expedition supplies and equipment are available on request
- Collection from Chirk train station also provided
- You must be registered to a centre and have an eDofE number to participate
We offer comprehensive courses for those who want a challenge and wish to develop confidence and independence. This is why our programmes are longer than most giving participants the opportunity to make the most of the life-changing experience.

Silver Training, Practice & Qualifying Expedition
Rise to the challenge of getting your Silver expedition section complete in a week, with the following:
- 2 days/2 nights of leadership & navigation training based around Llangollen
- 2 days of complete camp craft, first aid, emergency procedures and countryside code workshops
- Full 1:1 debrief with your dedicated & experienced instructor who can help you achieve the best in your qualifying expedition
- Group planning exercise for expedition kit and menus
- 3 days/2 night assessment expedition enjoying the scenery of the Clwydian Range and Berwyn Mountains
- The expedition section will be complete with a short presentation about your experience to your assessor
- All food and accommodation are included, either in Bryntysilio grounds or camping out
Gold Training & Practice Expedition
Be fully prepared for your assessment expedition with our comprehensive training package, including:
- 3 days/2 nights of leadership & navigation training based around the Clwydians and Berwyn Mountains
- 3 days of complete camp craft, first aid, emergency procedures, countryside code, conservation and ecology workshops
- Full 1:1 debrief with your dedicated & experienced instructor who can help you achieve the best in your qualifying expedition
- Group planning exercise for expedition dates, location, kit and menus
- All food and accommodation is included, based in Snowdonia National Park
- A final day of adventure activity to bond as a team and relax after training

Gold Qualifying Expedition Week
Join one of our open expeditions to experience an expedition like no other, where you are fully prepared and ready to take on the challenge.
- Dates and locations typically organised on training for qualifying expedition but if you have already done training elsewhere we welcome you into the team
- Options include Scotland, Ireland, Europe and overseas to support young people’s independence to design and run their own expedition but we take care of all logistics and organisation
- All food and accomodation for days prior to trip from Brynty if needed
- All expedition kit and equipment available on request
